For the structure of our Palapas, the poles and framework, we use only the highest quality Cedar for its longevity and durability. Our competitors use pine, which retains water and rots quickly. Our leaves are individually secured into place to maintain resistance from any windstorm or hurricane.

Gulf Coast Palapas constructs our Palapas with all cedar! Our competitors use pine, which does not come close to the quality of cedar. Pine is not naturally resistant to rot or insects, such as termites. Cedar naturally produces preservatives that make it one of the most decay and rot resistant of woods, as well as insect tolerant. As for humidity, large cracks in pine are common because of the higher moisture content. Cedar has a much lower moisture content, which has minimal cracking. There is no comparison!

If your HOA, (Home Owner’s Association), will not allow you to build a Palapa, we have developed a new idea that will provide you with the tropical atmosphere of your dreams.

Many HOAs require that the roof of the Palapa/ shade structure must match the roof top of the home, (shingles). As a result of this guideline, we will install a conventional shingled roof instead of the Palapa palm leaves. Underneath the shingled roof we will carefully mount bamboo matte, which will be trimmed out in bamboo rope. Also, we will use cedar posts as part of the structure for durability and longevity. These new structures are water tight and made to last.

This concept still gives your shade structure the image of a true Palapa and the island resort experience you and your family can enjoy year round. Your HOA will happily approve, and you can relax in a tropical paradise right in your own backyard.
